Speaking from the Swedish mining town of Kiruna, Stéphane Séjourné, Vice-President of the European Commission, announced the launch on Thursday 25 September of a second call for projects under the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA). The projects that are selected will join the initial 60 and will benefit from easier access to funding and accelerated permit procedures on the basis that they are deemed strategic.
The selection criteria are contribution to the security of supply, project feasibility and sustainability.
The call is open to projects both inside and outside of the EU and will close on 15 January 2026. On 9 October, the European Commission will be holding an online information session for interested promoters.
