12/09/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Commissioner for Trade, Maroš Šefčovič, was in India on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 September, along with the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Christophe Hansen, to push forward discussions on a trade agreement at political level. The two Commissioners met India’s Trade Minister, Piyush Goyal. Mr Šefčovič reiterated the Commission's ambition to conclude the discussions by the end of the year. “Given the political will on both sides, I think we are in a good position to meet this timetable”, he said at an event organised by the Indian Association of Automotive Component Manufacturers. “My aim is to ensure that the trade agreement facilitates two-way trade flows between India and the EU, in a way that removes tariffs for all components, from engines to brakes” added the Commissioner.
