The 2025 call for Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships (MSCA) attracted 17,058 applications from researchers worldwide, the European Commission announced on Thursday 11 September. The ‘Choose Europe for science' initiative to attract researchers (EUROPE 13646/17) has resulted in a 64.6% increase in the number of applications compared to 2024.
According to the Commission, this makes it the most popular call in more than four decades of EU research programmes. These grants enable researchers to carry out their own projects with host institutions, acquire new skills and forge international partnerships. Around 1,650 top proposals will secure funding, with approximately €404.3 million earmarked for the initiative.
"The high number of proposals reflects Europe’s growing reputation as a safe and stable home for research", commented Ekaterina Zaharieva, European Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation. “I am eager to see how the selected projects will continue to advance research and innovation in Europe and beyond”.
