01/08/2025 (Agence Europe) – In its response to the European Commission’s consultation on its future package for European networks (see EUROPE 13640/17), the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) identified areas for improvement on Thursday 31 July. It recognises, among other things, the need to speed up the authorisation process for PCI/PMI projects of common and mutual interest. It goes on to say that flexible regulation is needed to support the adoption of hydrogen. Another element of improvement concerns the planning of the electricity network at national level, with the power granted to the national regulatory authority (NRA) responsible for approving national energy transmission development plans. Secondly, the Council considers it necessary to improve transparency on the capacity of the electricity network and warns against premature reforms to facilitate investment in network infrastructures.
