01/08/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Friday1 August, the European Commission launched a public consultation and a call for evidence to gather the views of the public and experts on future legislation on the circular economy in order to provide “a better understanding of the bottlenecks and the opportunities in advancing” this economy. Due to be adopted in 2026, this legislation will speed up the transition, strengthening the EU’s economic security, resilience, competitiveness and decarbonisation, according to a press release from the European Commission. It will establish a single market for secondary raw materials and increase the supply of high-quality recycled materials, while stimulating demand for these materials in the EU. According to the Commission, the legislation will also contribute to the objectives set out in the ‘Competitiveness Compass’ and the ‘Clean Industrial Deal’. The consultation is open until 6 November. To view the consultation: https://aeur.eu/f/i37 (CG)
