EMSA says ammonia-based marine fuel is a promising technology, but requires effective safety measures

“It is essential to thoroughly understand the unique characteristics of ammonia and their implications for risk assessment in order to establish effective safety measures that mitigate the inherent risks of using ammonia as a fuel”, warned the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) in a series of reports published on Thursday 31 July.
