31/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – Andreas Künne, the current Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Czech Republic, was appointed Ambassador of the European Union to Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein on Thursday 31 July, the EU delegation in Bern said in a press release. Among other positions of responsibility, he was previously Director for the United Nations and Counter-Terrorism at the German Federal Foreign Office. Andreas Künne will succeed ambassador Petros Mavromichalis, whose term of office in Berne expires on 31 August, and who had to extend his mission after a first successor appointed in 2024, Miroslav Lajčák, was unable to take up his duties (see EUROPE 13478/28).
