The EU Research Ministers will be meeting informally in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 July. Discussions will focus on the importance of critical technologies and their crucial role in boosting European competitiveness, and on research and innovation in the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).
On Wednesday morning, the Danish Minister for Higher Education and Science, Christina Egelund, will welcome her counterparts from the EU and certain associated countries, as well as the European Commission.
After lunch, they will discuss the contribution of research and innovation to European competitiveness, including the importance of critical technologies, in an initial round table discussion. Minister Egelund’s introduction will be followed by a keynote speech from David Dreyer Lassen, Rector of the University of Copenhagen. The ministers will then visit the Niels Bohr Institute.
They will end the day with a dinner in the ceremonial hall of the University of Copenhagen, in the presence of representatives of Danish education and research establishments, and other players from the world of research.
On Thursday morning, the second working session will be devoted to the place of research and innovation in the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF), which will have been presented the day before by the European Commission (see other news).
The Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation, Ekaterina Zaharieva, will present elements relating to these areas. In particular, the ministers will discuss the ‘Horizon Europe’ framework programme for research and innovation (see EUROPE 13677/2).
The informal meeting will end in the early afternoon, to be followed by the informal meeting of the Ministers for Competitiveness. (Original version in French by Anne Damiani)
