Experts from the Working Parties for Cereals, Oilseeds and Protein Crops at Copa-Cogeca (the EU’s agricultural organisations and cooperatives) said on Friday 11 July that they were expecting a modest improvement in EU cereals production in 2025.
Total cereals production in the EU27 is estimated at 275.2 million tonnes, an increase of 6.9% compared to 2024. This increase was due to a 2.2% rise in sown area and a 4.6% improvement in yields. Common wheat production is set to rise by 9.6%, barley by 9.2% and maize by 4.7%. Durum wheat, on the other hand, faces a sharp fall of 32%.
Among the other cereals, triticale (+7.4%), oats (+6.4%) and rye (+2.8%) should also see an increase in production. Sorghum, on the other hand, fell sharply (-19.9%).
For oilseeds, the outlook for 2025 remains broadly stable, with total production in the EU27 estimated at 31.1 million tonnes, a slight fall of 0.8% compared with 2024. Protein crop production in the EU27 should reach 3.82 million tonnes (+8%). (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
