11/07/2025 (Agence Europe) – “We deeply regret the decision to impose sanctions on Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories”, said Anouar El Anouni, spokesperson for the European External Action Service, on Friday 11 July. The day before, the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, announced on X sanctions against Ms Albanese, accusing her of waging a “campaign of political and economic warfare” against the United States and Israel, while the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, was in Washington. According to Mr El Anouni, “the EU will continue to support efforts to conduct independent investigations into violations and abuses of human rights and violations of international humanitarian law, including those that may amount to international crimes”.
