On Thursday 26 June, the EU Council decided to renew the mandate of the European Union Border Assistance Mission in Libya (EUBAM Libya) for a further two years, until 30 June 2027. It has allocated it an endowment of almost €52 million for the period from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2027. Created in 2013, the civilian mission aims to help strengthen the Libyan authorities’ capacity to manage the country’s borders, combat cross-border crime - including human trafficking and migrant smuggling - and fight terrorism. “EUBAM Libya provides technical advice, carries out activities to build operational and technical capacity and implements projects, complemented by specialist training and workshops”, the EU Council said in its press release.
