European Commission launches two public consultations on digital networks and high-risk AI

On Friday 6 June, the European Commission announced the launch of two public consultations on future legislation on digital networks and high-risk artificial intelligence systems.

The first consultation looks at how to remove obstacles to cross-border commercial transactions, stimulate innovation and increase investment in the European electronic communications sector.

Legislation on digital networks is due to be adopted by the end of 2025.

In addition to this call for contributions, which is open until 11 July, the Commission is seeking contributions in the form of three studies on the rules enabling cross-border networks, access to infrastructure and solutions to funding problems.

The second consultation, launched on Friday and open until 18 July, is intended to gather contributions on the implementation of AI legislation rules relating to high-risk AI systems (see EUROPE 13263/15).

The comments will be taken into account in the Commission’s forthcoming guidelines on the classification of high-risk AI systems and the associated requirements and obligations.
