06/06/2025 (Agence Europe) – In the first quarter of 2025, seasonally-adjusted GDP increased by 0.6% in the euro area and the European Union compared to the previous quarter, according to the estimate published by the EU’s statistical office (Eurostat) on Friday 6 June. Ireland (+9.7%) recorded the biggest rise in GDP, followed by Malta (+2.1%) and Cyprus (+1.3%), while the biggest falls were seen in Luxembourg (-1.0%), Slovenia (-0.8%), Denmark and Portugal (both -0.5%). Seven countries (the three mentioned above, Denmark, Estonia, Sweden and Hungary) recorded a fall in their GDP and four others (Finland, Greece, Latvia and Romania) a stagnation. Growth was strong in Spain (0.6%), sustained in Germany (0.4%), moderate in Italy (0.3%) and weak in France (0.1%). In the fourth quarter of 2024, GDP increased by 0.3% in the euro area and by 0.4% in the EU. (MB)
