The latest report on agri-food trade, published by the European Commission on Thursday 5 June, shows that the EU’s trade surplus in this sector rose to €4.4 billion in February.
Exports rose in February 2025, while imports fell slightly, but remain significantly higher than in February 2024 due to the elevated global prices.
EU agri-food exports reached €19.6 billion in February 2025, up 3% on the previous month and 1.4% on February 2024. The United Kingdom remained the main destination, with an increase of €322 million (+4%) driven by higher exports of cocoa-based products, coffee and protein crops.
EU agri-food imports totalled €15.2 billion in February 2025, down 5% on January, but still 15% above the previous year’s levels, due to persistently high global prices, particularly for cocoa and coffee.
