On 30 April, the European Commission announced it had granted €52 million in financial aid for nine renewable energy projects in Finland and Estonia through the EU Renewable Energy Financing Mechanism (RENEWFM) following a call for projects, which Luxembourg is supporting up to €52.4 million (see EUROPE 13574/30 and 13465/11).
Expected between 2027 and 2028, the chosen projects should add a total capacity of 445.65 MW of renewable energy installations.
In Finland, seven solar photovoltaic projects have been selected, including the construction of a photovoltaic power plant in Kouvola (€7.7 million) and even the conversion of a waste disposal site into a solar farm in Lålby (€5.9 million).
Two projects are going to be supported in Estonia: the Püssi project, which aims to develop a hybrid renewable energy park integrating wind and solar energy (€9.8 million), and the Maima wind park, [which aims] to develop onshore wind power in the Estonian villages of Tarva and Tõrdu (€8.2 million).
