ETS2 revenues should be returned to citizens through direct payments, according to European Environmental Bureau

02/05/2025 (Agence Europe) – The NGOEuropean Environmental Bureau (EEB) argued in a publication on 30 April that part of the revenue from the new Emissions Trading System for Transport and Heating (ETS2) should be returned to citizens through direct payments. The EEB fears that if the new system, planned for 2027, is not well designed, it could “fuel negative public opinion”.
