Representatives of railway, inland waterway, maritime and intermodal sectors call on European legislators to make progress on combined transport

02/05/2025 (Agence Europe)In a statement published on Tuesday 29 April (see EUROPE 13539/7), representatives of the railway, inland waterway, maritime and intermodal sectors have called on the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union to continue work on the proposed revision of the Combined Transport Directive. Presented as part of the package on the greening of freight, this revision and the revision of the directive on the weights and dimensions of lorries are interdependent (see EUROPE 13586/17). The representatives mentioned above ask that these two proposals be examined in parallel. They wish to avoid solutions that revert to the current status quo , by introducing incentives or omitting existing provisions, leading to longer road journeys or a reverse modal shift to the detriment of rail freight, short sea shipping and inland waterway transport.
