On Thursday 24 April, the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) approved, by 64 votes to 10 with 12 abstentions, the compromise amendments negotiated and tabled by the rapporteur, Borys Budka (EPP, Polish), concerning the two-year extension of the regulation on gas storage beyond 2025 (see EUROPE 13621/11).
The ITRE Committee’s position establishes an annual fill rate of 83% and possible flexibility measures.
The current regulation, amended in 2022 to guarantee the EU’s security of supply in the context of the energy crisis, sets a 90% fill rate for gas tanks on 1 November.
The EU Council has already adopted its position, maintaining the 90% rate but also adding additional margins of flexibility (see EUROPE 13620/5).
The European Parliament will vote on the ITRE Committee’s compromise at its plenary session in May. (Original version in French by Pauline Denys)
