24/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 24 April, the European Commission authorised a Portuguese aid package worth €612 million, aimed at lowering electricity levy rates for energy-intensive companies. The aim of this support is to reduce the risk of these energy-intensive companies relocating their activities to locations outside the EU, where climate policies are less ambitious. An energy-intensive company is one that consumes a large amount of energy as an essential part of its production process. The scheme will run until 22 April 2035. Beneficiaries can obtain a levy reduction of between 75% and 85%, depending on their exposure to risk. (LC)
