24/03/25 (Agence Europe) – More than 450 scientists have urged co-legislators to speed up their negotiations on revising the list of pollutants to be monitored in water (see EUROPE 13538/2), revealed the NGO European Environmental Bureau (EEB), on Monday 24 March. “Member States are dragging their feet to curb water pollution”, said Sara Johansson of the EEB. The next trilogue on this subject is currently scheduled for 20 May. The “limited and outdated” list of pollutants to be monitored should be extended to include “the effects of chemical mixtures”. The signatories called on the Member States, the European Parliament and the European Commission not to weaken the Water Framework Directive and its environmental objectives, and to update the rules on monitoring, reporting and pollution control.
