24/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 23 March, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty announced that the first-ever summit between his country and the European Union would be held this year, bringing together the Egyptian president and the presidents of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the European Council, António Costa. At a press conference with EU High Representative Kaja Kallas, he highlighted the strengthening of EU-Egypt relations through the Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership (see EUROPE 13373/6), particularly in the areas of trade and investment and on issues of legal and illegal migration. Egypt is hosting 10 million refugees and is hoping for support from the EU, according to the minister. (CG)
