24/03/25 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 24 March, the Council of the European Union adopted a third assistance measure worth €20 million under the ‘European Peace Facility’ for the Mauritanian armed forces. The aim of this measure is to provide the army with mobile land surveillance resources and the navy with a second patrol boat, identical to the one planned under the €15 million assistance measure adopted on 22 July 2024 (see EUROPE 13458/10). “This equipment will support the Mauritanian Armed Forces’ efforts to increase situational awareness on national territory. They will also contribute to a permanent presence at sea, in support of maritime security and in cooperation with the existing Yaoundé architecture”, said the Council in a press release. The first measure for the Mauritanian armed forces, worth €12 million, was adopted on 1 December 2022 (see EUROPE 13075/25). (CG)
