10/03/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 7 March, the European Court of Human Rights announced that it had received an interstate application from Slovakia against Belgium. The case concerns the death of a Slovakian national after he was stopped by Belgian police at Brussels-Charleroi airport. The Slovak government invoked Articles 2 (right to life), 3 (prohibition of inhuman and degrading treatment), 8 (right to respect for private and family life) and 14 (prohibition of discrimination) of the European Convention on Human Rights. Slovakia is also questioning the investigation carried out in Belgium. This is the first interstate application between Slovakia and Belgium to be heard by the court. (VL)
