13/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 12 February, the European Union strongly condemned the death of a World Food Programme (WFP) employee who had been held by Houthi rebels since 23 January. “The European Union extends its deepest condolences to his family and to the World Food Programme, and stands in solidarity with all staff arbitrarily detained (...). The European Union calls on the Houthis for an immediate, transparent and thorough investigation and for those responsible to be held accountable”, said a spokesperson for the European External Action Service. The European Union continues to demand the immediate and unconditional release of all United Nations, NGO and diplomatic personnel detained by the Houthis. “These detentions are endangering the provision of urgently needed humanitarian and development assistance to the Yemeni people”, added the spokesperson.
