24/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – In a ruling handed down on Thursday 23 January (case C-577/23) (see EUROPE 13223/11), the Court of Justice of the European Union has ordered Estonia to pay a lump-sum fine of €400,000 for failing to transpose the ‘ECN+’ Directive, which aims to provide national competition authorities with the means to implement European competition rules more effectively, within the required timeframe. If the breach persists at the date of the judgment, a daily penalty payment of €3,000 will be imposed from that date until Estonia has put an end to the breach.
