24/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – In a letter dated Wednesday, 22 January, approximately one hundred NGOs asked Ursula von der Leyen to fully ban PFAS and to put an end to interference from industries that defend their use. This stand was taken after the ‘Forever Lobbying project’, a consortium of journalists, revealed on Tuesday, 14 January, that a disinformation campaign on the issue of ‘PFAS’ (or persistent pollutants) was being conducted by companies lobbying the European Commission (see EUROPE 13557/12). The European Environmental Bureau (EEB), PAN Europe, and ClientEarth along with dozens of other organisations are also urging the European Commission to hold polluters accountable, to implement a monitoring and remediation plan, to provide support to citizens who have been affected, to increase the supply of PFAS alternatives, to revise the REACH legislation, and to support regulation on a global scale.
