06/12/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 4 December, the European Banking Authority (EBA) launched a public consultation on draft regulatory technical standards specifying the criteria by which crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) should designate a central point of contact. This should ensure compliance with the host Member State’s local anti-money laundering and combating terrorist financing (AML/CFT) obligations. CASPs may provide services in other Member States through establishments other than branches. Once established, they must comply with local obligations even if their establishments are not themselves ‘obligated entities’. This can make the AML/CFT monitoring of services provided through these institutions difficult. The consultation is open until Tuesday 4 February 2025. For more information: https://aeur.eu/f/ep9 (AD)
