06/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 6 December, the ambassadors of the Member States to the European Union (Coreper) continued their discussions on the 15th package of European sanctions targeting Russia for its military aggression against Ukraine, but without reaching a unanimous agreement, according to two diplomatic sources. One of the sources took the view that the Member States were “very close to an agreement”, while noting the reluctance of the Baltic States to maintain certain derogations granted to the EU sanctions regime in connection with the withdrawal from the Russian market. At the time of going to press, the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council could still decide whether or not to return to this issue before the end of the Coreper meeting. (MB)
