Transport Alliance for Clean Air issues recommendations for meeting EU air quality standards by 2030

The Transport Alliance for Clean Air (‘TACA’), a group of transport and mobility companies and associations, says the private sector should be at the forefront of action to tackle toxic air pollution, according to a briefing published on Monday 2 December.

According to TACA, the private sector must help authorities strengthen controls on transport emissions by providing low or zero emission technologies, goods and services.

The briefing makes a number of recommendations, such as redesigning low-emission zones (LEZs) and introducing scrappage schemes and limited traffic zones in Europe’s major cities.

Finally, public transport and shared and active mobility should replace 25-50% of car journeys and 5-25% of van journeys by 2030 and 2040 respectively. Incentives are therefore needed to encourage the adoption of these mobility modes. In addition, road space must be reallocated in favour of infrastructure dedicated to modes of transport other than the car.
