25/11/24 (Agence Europe) – On Sunday 24 November, European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič announced the arrival of 97 tonnes of humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. “Today the EU Humanitarian Air Bridge to Afghanistan has completed the last of the 4 flights scheduled this year”, Lenarčič said on X. According to the European Commission, 23.7 million people need assistance in the country due to persistent food insecurity, the effects of climate change and chronic political instability (see EUROPE 13428/19). Since the launch of its Air Bridge in August 2021, the EU has delivered nearly 1,950 tonnes of essential relief items on 37 flights to Kabul. (BD)
