On thousandth day of war, Council of Europe reaffirms its “multifaceted” support for Ukraine

On Tuesday 19 November, to mark the 1,000th day of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine, the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers adopted a declaration reaffirming its “multifaceted support to help Ukraine”.

Today, we remain committed to supporting Ukraine in its struggle for freedom, democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognised borders and to continue working with our international partners to ensure the reconstruction and recovery of the country, as well as to hold Russia accountable for its crimes and to ensure a just and lasting peace in Ukraine”, said the representatives of the Council of Europe foreign affairs ministers.

Present at the Committee of Ministers meeting, Vesna Batistić Kos, Head of the EU Delegation to the Council of Europe, pointed out that the EU is a party to the Register of Damage agreed in May 2023 at the Reykjavik Summit.

She also reaffirmed the EU’s support for the establishment of a special tribunal for Russia’s crime of aggression and for the payment of reparations for the damage suffered by Ukraine. (Original version in French by Véronique Leblanc)
