19/11/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 18 November, the European Commission launched a four-week consultation to gather comments on the draft regulation on the ecodesign of external power supplies. Based on the Radio Equipment Directive, these requirements could reduce the annual life-cycle energy consumption of external power supplies by 3% by 2035. The Commission also wants all chargers on the EU market that can be used with radio equipment to be common chargers, such as USB Type C. Comments from stakeholders, together with the results of a formal WTO consultation, will feed into the Commission’s deliberations with a view to submitting a revised text of the Implementing Regulation for discussion and vote by the EU Regulatory Committee in the first quarter of 2025.
