EU wants to improve use of space data

01/10/2024 (Agence Europe) – Christoph Kautz, Deputy Director-General of the European Commission Directorate-General for Defence Industry and Space, announced on Monday 30 September that the European Union wanted to improve space data and space services, which he believes are still underused. “There is still potential for space data and services. The mission letter (of Commissioner-designate Andrius) Kubilius states that the Commission will have to come up with a strategy to improve the situation and exploit the full potential of this data”, he explained to MEPs on the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy. In the letter, Ms von der Leyen asks Mr Kubilius to propose “a strategy for a space data economy to exploit the potential of space-derived data, products and technologies”. (CG)
