09/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 9 July, the European External Action Service announced that the High Representative of the Union, Josep Borrel, was travelling to Washington until 11 July to attend the NATO summit on behalf of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. The latter wants to devote herself to preparing for the vote in the European Parliament on her re-election as President of the Commission. “The Summit is an opportunity to reinforce the EU-NATO strategic partnership in the context of the ongoing Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as to strengthen relationships with global partners, including in the Indo-Pacific region”, according to the EEAS press release (see EUROPE 13448/4). Mr Borrell will take part in the summit session devoted to security challenges in the Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions on 11 July. The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, will also be in Washington. (CG)
