09/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – Irish MEP Ciaran Mullooly of the Independent Ireland party joined the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament on Tuesday 9 July, following the validation of his membership application by the European Democrat Party within Renew Europe. With this addition, the group now has 77 members (see EUROPE 13441/9, 13443/16). The 55-year-old MEP was a journalist with the Irish public broadcaster RTÉ until 2021. “Mr Mullooly is a pragmatic and reasonable centrist who will bring great added value to the MEPs of the EDP and to the Renew Europe group”, said Sandro Gozi, Secretary General of the European Democratic Party. Mr Mullooly, meanwhile, affirmed his commitment to the EDP and said that “only by rejecting the false divisions between left- and right-wing politics can true regeneration be built from the political centre”.
