02/07/24 (Agence Europe) – The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group in the European Parliament, which has been meeting in Sicily since Monday 1 July for its Study Days, will hold its constituent meeting on the Italian island on Wednesday 3 July. Initially scheduled for Wednesday 26 June, this meeting was postponed because more time was needed for internal technical negotiations (see EUROPE 13440/17). ECR MEPs must officially form their parliamentary group and elect their chair. The group currently occupies third place in the European Parliament and has 83 members: 24 Italians, 20 Poles, 6 Romanians, 6 Spaniards, 4 French, 3 Belgians, 3 Czechs, 3 Latvians, 3 Swedes, 2 Greeks, 2 Lithuanians and 7 MEPs each from Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. However, its membership could be reduced if the Polish Law and Justice (PiS) party decides to leave (see EUROPE 13443/15). (AD)
