On Monday 1 July, the European Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, praised the merits of the ‘Global Gateway’ development cooperation strategy, launched in 2021 by the European Commission.
“Europe’s answer to this paradigm shift is our ‘Global Gateway’ strategy, which seeks to boost resilience for the EU and partner countries alike” she said during a visit to the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) in Dublin.
“We seek to create links, not dependencies. And to offer a truly comprehensive partnership, not just hard infrastructure, but also regulatory support, technology transfer and local job creation to make investments last”, said Ms Urpilainen, estimating the investment potential of the 'Global Gateway' at €300 billion.
On Wednesday 3 July, the Commissioner will present the first results of the ‘Inequality Marker’ ‘(I-Marker)’ (see EUROPE 13268/4) developed by the European Commission to monitor the social impact and reduce inequalities of the EU’s investment strategy abroad.
