25/06/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 25 June in Serbia, the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, together with the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Ivica Dačić, signed the agreement on operational cooperation in border management with the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex), a new status agreement between the EU and Serbia, according to a press release (see EUROPE 13420/39). “This new agreement will strengthen Serbia's border management capabilities while allowing Frontex to carry out deployments and provide additional support anywhere on the territory of Serbia, including its borders with neighbouring non-EU countries”. The signature finalises the negotiations that started in May 2023 and updates the current framework, which has been in force since May 2021. (SP)
