25/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – In a letter sent to the leaders of the European Council on Monday 24 June (see EUROPE 13394/1), the President of the Eurogroup, Paschal Donohoe, details the work being carried out in the financial and banking fields to implement the agenda set by the spring European Council, in particular to deepen the capital markets union (CMU). In May, the Eurogroup agreed a work programme which focuses first on possible measures at national level followed by recommending European legislative initiatives (see EUROPE 13410/7). On the subject of the banking union, Mr Donohoe also notes the recent agreement on the ‘CMDI’ proposal to strengthen banking crisis management, which paves the way for negotiations with the European Parliament on this dossier (see EUROPE 13435/2).
