Nuclear industry presents its priorities for new European Commission

Representatives of the European nuclear industry published, on Thursday 13 June, their manifesto for the new European Commission, calling for nuclear energy to be recognised as a solution in the fight against climate change and to facilitate access to affordable energy and ensure security of supply.

It is essential that the next Commission treats nuclear power on an equal footing with other non-fossil fuel technologies”, said Yves Desbazeille, Director General of Nucleareurope, the association representing the European nuclear industry.

We hope that future policy proposals will focus on objectives - decarbonisation, competitiveness, energy sovereignty - rather than on specific technologies”, he continued.

The manifesto also calls for nuclear energy to have access to EU funds and financing, for it not to be discriminated against in tax policies, and for the nuclear fuel cycle to be included as an “enabling activity” in the taxonomy of sustainable financing.
