Reporters Without Borders believes that EU regulation on AI must take protection of right to information more seriously

In a list of seven recommendations relating to artificial intelligence, published on Wednesday 12 June, Reporters Without Borders is urging the newly-elected European Parliament to take up issues relating to the right to information, which they consider to be the blind spot when it comes to regulating AI.

While welcoming the “historic progress already made in regulating digital platforms and artificial intelligence”, RSF sets out seven points for protecting the information space and calls on the EU for information to be “considered a ‘high risk’ sector by the AI Act”.

RSF advocates, for example, for the use of reliable sources for AI information systems, the introduction of real sanctions against disseminators of deepfakes, and a system of fair compensation for the creators of content used by the models.

RSF also wants the EU to invest massively in the AI sector related to information, and to promote a system of cooperation rather than competition.
