The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and the Norwegian Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Espen Barth Eide, and Defence, Bjørn Arild Gram, signed, on Tuesday 28 May, a security and defence partnership.
According to the European External Action Service (EEAS), the partnership covers existing areas of cooperation, such as support for Ukraine or Norway’s participation in EU CSDP missions and operations and its involvement in EU defence initiatives. It also strengthens practical cooperation, particularly in terms of maritime safety, cyber security and the fight against the manipulation and interference of foreign information, including disinformation, and introduces new consultations on peace mediation.
The agreement also identifies new opportunities for joint action, for example on the resilience of critical infrastructures and the protection of undersea infrastructures.
Finally, it promotes cooperation on the ground between EU delegations and Norwegian embassies. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
