29/05/24 (Agence Europe) – The Belgian Presidency of the EU Council believes it has done good work on the issue of quality traineeships (see EUROPE 13417/24) and does not envisage a general approach at the ‘Employment and Social Affairs’ Council on 20 June, as the Commission’s proposals arrived late, it explained to Agence Europe on Wednesday 29 May. It will have organised three working groups and all the articles of both texts will have been examined. While some delegations would have liked to see an initial compromise, this will be up to the Hungarian Presidency, which will organise the next working group. “This package also represents a fairly heavy burden for the Member States, with different levels of decision-making involved for some of them. Mapping the impact takes some time”, said a source. Another source also confirmed the many questions raised by Member States about these two texts and how they fit together. (SP)
