European Commission to propose €608.6 million to support doctoral networks under Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA)

On Wednesday 29 May, the European Commission announced the opening of a new call for proposals for doctoral networks, as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA). This call has a budget of €608.6 million in funding, which will be awarded to the consortia of selected organisations and disbursed under the Horizon Europe framework programme for research and innovation.

This funding will enable beneficiaries to recruit and train doctoral candidates and support interdisciplinary, international and cross-sectoral cooperation.

The programme also includes specific incentives to develop joint doctorates, which will take the form of integrated training programmes, in synergy with the objectives of the blueprint for a European degree.

The programme will also encourage the introduction of industrial doctorates to enable researchers to develop their skills outside academia, for example in industry or business.

Doctoral networks are implemented, in particular, through partnerships between academic organisations.

The call is linked to Horizon Europe’s overall budget of €1.25 billion, which was announced in February (see EUROPE 13345/41) and will be used to fund Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions this year. 160 doctoral programmes will be supported in various scientific fields. This should involve 2,400 researchers.

Applications can be submitted until 27 November. A virtual information day concerning this call will be held on 7 June 2024.
