European Commission proposes transposing GFCM rules

29/05/2024 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 28 May, the European Commission presented a delegated regulation relating to the transposition of the European Union’s international obligations on the landing obligation for fish, following the adoption of rules laid down by the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM). These recommendations ban the targeting, retaining on board and landing of giant red shrimp, and blue and red shrimp specimens smaller than the minimum conservation reference size, which is set at 25 mm carapace length. Incidental catches limited at 5% of these species may be retained on board. It will also be forbidden to target common dolphinfish specimens smaller than 35 cm (also with a 5% margin of tolerance for incidental catches). Link to the proposed text: https://aeur.eu/f/cem (LC)
