21/05/24 (Agence Europe) – The new European directive harmonising the enforcement of sanctions in the European Union (see EUROPE 13390/22) came into force on Sunday 19 May. This legislation ensures uniform investigation and prosecution in all Member States for violations such as failure to freeze assets, travel bans, arms embargoes and financial transaction bans. The text aims to close legal loopholes and strengthen deterrence by establishing common basic standards for sanctions for both natural and legal persons in all Member States, and to facilitate inter-state cooperation within the EU. Member States have until 20 May 2025 to incorporate these rules into their national legislation. Read the text here: https://aeur.eu/f/br3 (NP)
