21/05/2024 (Agence Europe) – In a press release issued by the European External Action Service (EEAS) on 17 May, the European Commission’s spokeswoman for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Nabila Massrali, strongly condemned the armed attack on a group of foreign tourists visiting the city of Bamiyan, Afghanistan’s top tourist destination. The attack, claimed by the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) group, killed six people, including three Afghans and three Spaniards, as well as wounding several others, and appears to be the first fatal attack on foreign tourists in the country since the Taliban returned to power in August 2021. “Our thoughts go out to the families and loved ones of the victims who lost their lives and to those injured in the attack”, the press release concludes.
