21/05/24 (Agence Europe) – In the fourth quarter of 2023, greenhouse gas emissions from the European Union’s economy were estimated at 897 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent—a 4% decrease compared to the same quarter of 2022 (935 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent)—according to the latest data on quarterly estimates published by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) on Wednesday, 15 May. At the same time, EU’s gross domestic product remained stable: a slight increase of 0.2% was recorded over the same period. This reduction in emissions was observed in 22 EU countries. The largest reductions in greenhouse gas emissions were in Estonia (−23.0%), Bulgaria (−17.0%), and Finland (−9.0%). (NP)
