During the final session of the European Citizens’ Panel in Brussels, from 17 to 19 May, 150 citizens presented 21 recommendations to the European Commission and national authorities aimed at combatting hatred in all its forms.
These recommendations aim to foster mutual respect and are aligned with the European Union’s values of human dignity, freedom and democracy.
This panel follows on from the Commission’s communication of 6 December 2023 entitled ‘No place for hate: a Europe united against hatred’, which calls for increased efforts in various sectors such as security, digital, education and culture (see EUROPE 13308/4).
These initiatives also aim to criminalise hate speech and find solutions to the problems that arise, particularly online.
They will be considered by the College of Commissioners to support the Commission’s future work in combatting hatred.
