21/05/24 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 20 May, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, condemned the 890 attacks on health facilities in the Palestinian territories recorded by the World Health Organization (443 in Gaza and 447 in the West Bank). “Attacks against health-care workers, hospitals and ambulances disrupt vital medical services.(...) These attacks must end. At the same time, regarding the mandatory protection of civilians under International Humanitarian Law, the EU strongly condemns the use of hospitals for any purposes other than medical”, said Borrell and Lenarčič in a statement. Last Friday, the EU announced that it was sending further humanitarian aid by sea (see EUROPE 13412/3). (BD)
